A Beautiful Makeover at 3554 Oak Knoll Drive

When you enter this home nestled within the hills of Redwood City, you feel the “treehouse” magic: high ceilings, large windows, mature trees - an immersive experience. When we teamed up with Kristina Shelton and the team at Freemodel, our mission was to enhance the natural atmosphere while incorporating modern comfort and finishes.

Why We Renovated

Built in 1994, the house already had a soaring, light-filled presence. What it needed was a fresh layer of refinement: updated flooring, refreshed paint, and replacement lighting that would elevate its original character. Our goal? To preserve the home’s charm while making it feel fresh and contemporary for the next owners.

New Floors

We replaced the old flooring with beautiful, wide-plank luxury vinyl flooring throughout the main living spaces and bedrooms. The consistent flooring creates a seamless flow from the entry through the kitchen and into the living room—visually rooting the house in its woodland setting. The warm, natural grain brings the outside in and uniquely ties every space together.

Details to come: wood species, plank width, and finish.

Paint Refresh

Exterior

Outside, we brought in a deeper, more saturated palette that complements the home’s wooded surroundings. For the siding, we chose Intrigue—a moody, earthy green-gray with just the right amount of depth.—a moody, earthy green-gray with just the right amount of depth. For the trim, we used Deep River, a bold, cool charcoal that outlines the architecture and adds striking curb appeal. Together, they ground the home in its natural setting while giving it a fresh, updated presence.

Interior

We chose a serene palette to bring lightness and cohesion throughout the home. The walls are painted in Morning Dew by Benjamin Moore—a soft, silvery gray-green that shifts beautifully with daylight. For the trim and ceilings, we chose Chantilly Lace, a crisp, clean white that frames each room with subtle contrast.

Lighting Overhaul

With windows in nearly every room, this home is filled with natural light throughout the day—one of its most striking characteristics. To complement that, we added lighting fixtures that bring warmth and cohesion once the sun goes down.

New LED recessed lighting was installed throughout the entire home, offering clean, consistent illumination. A few elevated touches complete the look:

  • A statement pendant above the breakfast nook

  • A chandelier in the primary bedroom

  • Updated vanity lighting in all bathrooms

Together, these upgrades enhance the home’s natural flow—ensuring every space feels bright, intentional, and ready for everyday living.

Bathroom Refresh

In addition to new flooring, each of the home’s bathrooms received thoughtful updates to enhance both function and style.

  • Hall Bathroom: We introduced serene green tile to bring in color and texture, paired with a sleek black vanity, updated lighting and mirror, and a new toilet for a crisp, modern feel.

  • Powder Room: A new natural-look vanity, bold black hardware, and modern sconces give this compact space a clean, elevated look.

  • Primary Bathroom: Already offering a spa-like experience with generous natural light, this space received updated lighting, refreshed hardware, and a new mirror to tie it in with the rest of the home.

Finished Flex Space

Originally an unfinished attic, this newly completed flex space adds valuable square footage and versatility. Whether used as a home office, workout studio, guest retreat, or creative nook, it’s a bright and quiet escape that adapts to your needs. Finished with the same flooring and paint as the rest of the home, it feels fully integrated.
